Woodfired Terracotta with Stephen Roberts

  • Cooroora Institute 780 Cooroy Belli Creek Rd 4563 Australia

An exploration of the wood-fired properties of terracotta clays using many coloured slips as decorative techniques – brush, slip-trail, inlaid, carved and rubbed, terra sigillata. Terracotta responds particularly well to woodfiring with a long tradition across many cultures, creating lovely warm colours. We’ll be using Bennett’s Terracotta at around $20 per pack with a broad firing range and easy to use. The first bisque firing will be in an electric kiln and the second glaze firing, using clear and honey glazes, will be in the wood-fired kiln designed and made by Stephen. Pots will be both wheel thrown and hand-built. Beginners are welcome. This course will lead up to the International Wood-fired conference, Smoke on the Water, held across the Noosa hinterland from June 28th to July 1st.
