Maori welcoming of the full moon with artists Jo Tito and Todd Sheridan
at the Cooroora Institute
Jo and Todd will offer waiata and korero about the stars, moon, and skies at this time of year, and their traditional and contemporary meaning to Maori people. They will discuss the use of time, particularly post sunset and the significance of Plaeides and Rigel as Maori New Year markers.
Followed by a potluck dinner: bring a plate to share.
The event will be held outside around a fire. Wear warm clothes appropriate to the weather and shoes that can negotiate a steep path. If the full moon is behind clouds you may also need to bring a torch or light. In the case of wet weather, we'll be up in the teaching studio and tents. It will be beautiful however it happens!
